MONSTROSITY - "IN DARK PURITY" (THE PLAGUE)

Monstrosity is a really cool and technically capable death metal band hailing from somewhere in Florida. Several years ago they released "Millenium", which was the first time I'd heard of them. Didn't hear much of them since, until I recently found staring at me what appeared to be their new album, "In Dark Purity".

"What the hell," I thought, "let's get it."

Which is something I haven't regretted for a second since. Delivering climax upon climax, Monstrosity have managed to fill this album with 50+ minutes of grade A death metal. Very good drumming, great compositions, a deep-down death grunt and tight guitar playing, all these together combine to make this one of the very finest death metal releases of the year.

All songs are excellently performed and up-tempo, with the exception of "The Pillars of Drear", which is an excellently performed slower-tempo song, quite menacing. Good, good stuff, the icing upon which is a cool cover of Slayer's "Angel of Death". The Japanese edition (to which the below link will take you) includes an extra cover in the form of Destruction's "Total Desaster".
