DISCONSOLATE - "DREAMING...LONGING...DYING"

Disconsolate was formed in 1998 like a phoenix out of the ashes of Embrace the Darkness. In October of last year they released their promo CD "Dreaming...Longing...Dying", containing five tracks in the vein of Anathema, My Dying Bride and Testament - slower doom tracks mixed with faster death metal cuts.

The band must have gone through some length to have the album produced at the other end of the world, where in Sydney the knobs were twiddled by one Ian Bannerman. The result, I am afraid, leaves something to be desired. Although the compositions are actually rather good, Bannerman's production is deplorable. The overall sound is very muddy, especially the bass drums, and you can barely hear the vocals.

It's too bad when a promising young band, like we say in Holland, does not come out of the paint because of a shoddy production.
